Home sharers

If you enjoy spending time with older people and have 10 hours per week to help with light duties around the home, we would love to hear from you. In exchange you will live in a comfortable home, in an inner city location, close to public transport and amenities.

Home share may be right for you if:

  • Your friends describe you as warm, friendly, thoughtful and kind.

  • You have a mature outlook and enjoy getting to know people.

  • You value home life and are considerate and respectful with how other people choose to live their lives.

Before we find a home share match, we take the time to learn about your lifestyle, interests, preferences and experiences. We also ask what qualities and skills you hope to bring to the home share friendship.

Once you decide you want to become a home share companion, and we believe we can find you a home sharing match, we register you with Shared Lives. Registration is very comprehensive and we require several reference checks as well as a police check.

Once a match has been established we arrange a trial weekend to confirm compatibility. Upon moving into your new home, you will need to meet with your home provider each week to schedule 10 hours per week of support through the Share Lives app. The app also enables you to provide updates to both Shared Lives and the home provider’s family and/or guardians. Contact us to learn more.

Safety

We match you with older people who have also been carefully screened and vetted. Screening includes ensuring that the accomodation meets your standards and it is a suitable place for you to call home.

Support

Shared Lives is here to support you on your home share journey. We will check in with you at regular intervals to see how you are settling into your new home and the role of support person for your home provider. When you join Shared Lives as a home sharer, you become a valued member of the Shared Lives team. We are committed to not only providing you with a lovely home but the possibility of supporting you with additional personal and professional development opportunities. If you are interested we can discuss further avenues for developing a career in the rewarding and growing aged care sector.
